Academic Showcase

Projects throughout my time at NC State. These project showcase my best work from the beginning of my time in the College of Design up until my second semester in Sophomore year.

Sophomore Studio II

Sophomore Studio II

For this project we were tasked to create a physical cultural mask and then used photogrammetry to create a 3D model to be turned into a Snap Chat Filter. In my mask I represented my queer identity, as well as the religious trauma from growing up. The base of the mask is brown and gold to represent the typical bible appearance. The blue had represents my Baptist Father and the pink represents my Methodist Mom. Despite their denominations both being a branch Christianity, they both had very separate influence and ideas.

It's Raining Acorns!!|Maya Animation

Digital Motion

For this project we had to create a narrative showcasing a ball enjoying its day before it gets hit by a random acorn. After the initial conflict we were given freedom to create our own ending. The animation was modeled and animated in Maya, then edited in After effects.

Mysterious & the Macabre Project

Sophomore Studio I

For this project we were to create a multimedia animation that had a horror aspect. I chose to combine 3D and Claymation for my animation. I used Blender, After Effects, Procreate, and Photoshop to create my animation. For the Claymation, I used oil based clay so that it stayed mailable and allowed me to create the animation. The hands and humanoid are both made out of clay. For the sound effects I found copyright free sounds and employed my 2 friends to voice act for me.

3D Frog Animation

Animation I

For this assignment we were to create an animation utilizing the 3D aspect of After effects. I chose to animate a 3D frog in blender then export it into After effects. For the background I used a GBL and added lighting in after effects. For the secondary animations I used Adobe Animate to draw them frame by frame.

3D Diorama

Digital Modeling

This Diorama was my final for my Digital Modeling class. For this project we had to use everything we learn throughout the semester and create a fully finished product. I chose to create a diorama of a writers desk. The model was create in blender and all assets were made by me.

For this assignment we had to create a digital poster for the N.C. State Fair. I created all the assets myself, minus the State Fair logo. The character were from a pervious assignment and were utilized again. I created a mood board on Pinterest and then used many photos as references as I created my assets in Adobe Illustrator.

Final Project

First Year Studio II

This project was a multi-step project over the course of 3 months. We started with choosing our best digital plate we created for a previous project. I chose the plate that represented depth. From there we created 3D versions of the plates, one utilizing lines and one utilizing volume. Then I created a digital model of the two versions in blender. After finalizing the design, I turned to Adobe Illustrator to create a 2D unwrapped version of the model to laser cut on cardboard. To put the model together I used rubber cement and perforated the edges where it need to be folded. After the model was completed I took photos of it with a green background so I could isolate the model in photoshop. The final step to our project was to create a narrative animation with our model and a character. I chose to create a 2D frog character that has to move his home (the cardboard model). The color scheme of the animation was based off of an Analogues color palette that we created earlier in the semester. The animation was put together in After effects, with the use of photoshop for the composition.

Paper Project: Bound By Belief

First Year Studio I

This was the first big project I've worked on at NC State. This was the wearable paper project for our Freshman studio. In this partner project we had to create a paper wearable that conveyed a relationship between two people. My partner and I connected over our shared religious trauma. This wearable is meant to be mobile. Two people are apart of the project, one wears the 'wings' and the other kneels at the latter's feet. The 'wings' open and close, appearing soft and inviting on the outside and then sharp and entrapping on the inside. Both my partner and I have felt confined by the church at times because of our identities. When the wings open it represents the times when we felt comfortable in the church and had freedom, when it is closed we felt confined and ruled by the church. This is not representative of all churches, but this was an example of the corrupt churches. I created the entire wing structure, it was stabilized through thread, glue, and a panel of paper used with the kirigami paper-cutting method to allow for movement. My partner made the spikes for the inside of the piece.

Explosion Drawing

Drawing I

This drawing was an assignment were we had to take one of our favorite foods and 'explode' it. All of the ingredients had to be clear and drawn individually. I used grey scale alcohol markers to shade my drawing and make it more realistic.

Design Manifesto Visualized

Design Inquiry

This assignment was the final for our D104 lecture at the beginning of my time here at NC State. We had to create an art piece that represents our relationship with design and then create a 2 page Manifesto. In my piece I used different colors to represent how the aspects of art tie together and makeup me as an artist and designer.
